I specialise in creating high quality durable steel sculpture and public art for the outdoor environment.
I work to commission undertaking Public Art projects and also private commissions. Editioned sculptures, produced in small limited editions of 3 or 8 are available from my portfolio. Artworks are produced to an extremely high standard and are very durable in the outdoor environment and works can be delivered worldwide. I also work in education - In schools I work together with pupils to design public artworks for their school or the community and I also provide creativity training, especially in Early Years through CPD and INSET training.
I have work in several international collections and exhibit regularly throughout the UK. I have undertaken prestigious public commissions for hospitals, libraries, cycle routes, urban regeneration, etc.
Many of my works are purely abstract. Some make loose references to representation and others are very much site-specific and context based. The emphasis is on the form, the lightness, the negative space, and properties of the metal. The sculptures play with the light as the sun catches the different faces of the metal creating subtle changes according to the time of day and season.
The overriding aesthetic of all the works is that they are minimal, with clean lines, and have a calm and meditative feel about them. The works are restrained and rigorous, deliberately kept minimal by avoiding superfluous ornamentation and thus have a strong visual impact. They are sculptures that can be lived with.
I also dedicate time to experimental work – currently exploring internal landscape of the human body and representing them in sculptural form – also experimenting with modern metal working techniques. This work was funded by an Arts Council award.
My personal inspiration comes from observing the detail, seeing connections combined with a passionate love of the visual world. I find inspiration in many forms, from the molecular shapes of proteins, investigating processes to ephemeral images in the natural world.
