Ian Marlow Sculpture

-
Ian Marlow is a member of the Royal Society of Sculptors.

His work has always been inspired by nature and natural forms from his earlier work in stone and marble through to his current work (the last 15 years) in stainless steel and glass.

Using steel to interpret, for example, the plant forms allows them to move gently in the breeze, giving those sculptures a life that more static sculptures lack.

The way he takes a material as industrial as stainless steel and makes it organic, transforming into more fluid, natural shapes is in itself exciting, almost magical. There is a bold freshness in the shiny steel that allows the sculptures to sit comfortably in modern, minimalist settings, but they are equally at home in very traditional gardens where they mirror their natural counterparts, reflecting colour from their surroundings to merge with the shades of grey in the steel.

The texturing he applies to the steel makes the surface of the sculptures shimmer playfully in the changing light, adding another dimension to the way they move and interact with the things around them.

Ian is regularly commissioned by public and private clients as well as corporate bodies, and he exhibits widely throughout the year. His studio and sculpture garden are open to visitors but because this is a working studio it is best to arrange visits in advance where possible.
