Ian Edwards Studios
.
Ian Edwards is an artist who is compelled to form images of nature, to create the work that he is drawn to, to connect the natural world to human touch. His vision, his heart, his hands translate the energy of the animal directly to the senses of the observer – he is born to be a creative link between the animal kingdom and our own.
Ian Edwards Wild Animal Sculptures
Ian knew from the age of seven that he wanted to create beautiful things with his hands. His love for nature and his eagerness to express his creativity as a young boy often found him carving sticks, trunks and the occasional windowsill.
At the age of 16 he began a traditional five year apprenticeship, specialising in early 16th to late 18th century ornamental woodcarving, at the world renowned G&H Studios. It was there that he was tutored in exquisite wood carving techniques. Here Ian started to find his love for the form and movement of both the human and animal body.
Ian takes his inspiration from his frequent walks in the woods with his dogs in his home county of Somerset. A moments glimpse of a passing swallow led to the sculpture Summertime, a visit to the local bird of prey sanctuary resulted in Cry of the Falcon. The urban fox prowling at night attracted Ian to create the Vixen Turns. Ian works in a wide range of materials including stone, wood, clay and wax. The majority of Ian’s work is sold in limited editions of bronze.
