David Harber
David Harber has earned an international reputation for creating innovative, contemporary designs paying homage to the past, and taking the marking of time as his inspiration.
Fascinated by the use of shadows, David incorporates light, water and reflections to create surprising and delightful illusions.
His work has an ethereal quality, drawing integrity from his commitment to using only the finest quality materials; beautiful, sometimes mysterious, always intriguing.

Over the last 10 years, David Harber has consolidated his position as a leading light in sundials.
Coinciding with the renaissance of interest in the garden, he has pioneered the reinvigoration of a centuries old craft — and built up an international reputation for making both contemporary and classical sundials.
David was drawn to the synthesis of art, design, mathematics, astronomy and craftsmanship that sundials embody. His first sundial was based on designs from the Museum of the History of Science in Oxford. He now revels in creating new and exciting sculptural sundials which honour ancient mathematics whilst being manifestly contemporary.

His previous eclectic career included being an apprentice thatcher, potter, rock-climbing teacher and the owner of a travelling theatre barge in Europe.
We are happy to develop ideas based on plans or working drawings you may have. Equally, we welcome visits to the workshop, or would be happy to show you our work by appointment only at our display garden which is located minutes from our workshop at:
