I started dabbling in sculpture back in 1996,I then became a full time sculptor in 2006. I work in a style best described as 'Direct Metal Sculpture', this is a modern approach to sculpture in which the metal is largely used as it is produced, using existing surfaces and shapes treating it as a medium in itself and fabricating it into the final form. As opposed to the traditional 'Heavy Metal' approaches typified by blacksmithing in which surfaces are forced and forged into shape by heat and heavy equipment.

I usually have a selection of pieces in stock, and can make replicas of existing works or complete one off's in similar styles, at short notice.

I am happy working to commission and find it a fascinating process turning sombody else's idea into reality, indeed some of my best work has been a product of this process, the ants and Newt Screens are both good examples of this.

I take my inspiration from a variety of sources, especially nature and have made many pieces based on fishes and the sea ranging in size from 3m as in this sculpture of aStriped Searobin for use in the garden.

To quite small as typified by the sculpture of an Angler fish, measuring 50cmfor use indoors.

I have also made many pieces based on the human form using a basket style construction to define the space occupied by the person, catching the moment rather than beig distracted by details. A favourite is Rosie Scarecrow, made to commission for Rob Scott, here is his photograph. I am able to make pieces in this style in any position and in ensembles, there is an excellent giant sized Jazz band on my website.

I have also made some larger installations including the Great Crested Newts below for Oliver Braithwaite to go around his newt pond.

A recent development is working from a microscopic scale, sizing things up to fit in the full sized world, here is a photo of my most recent work, based on a microscopic diatom. This an area of work that I am keen to develop.

I also make sciulptures on a smaller scale that are suitable for spur of the moment gifts, these are typified by the very popular Wallclimber series, these are suited to living indoors or out of doors and again I am able to copy poses from real life. I have scaled these up to life sized to live out of doors.

An unusualaspect of my work is the use of industrial techniques such Mig welding as a feature in themselves to draw out textures rather than hiding  the evidence. A good example of this is this recent sculpture of Vishnu, the whole surface being overwelded to give a natural organic look and feel

I am also involved large scale public commissions, here is a photograph of my largestproject to date, 'The Earth Dwellers', an installation of giant leaf cutter ants, each 4.5m long for Lord Bath at Longleat House. Picture by Tommy Parker Estate Manager.
